I honestly think that a lot of people who complain about video games being crap now have grown past them but based their entire identity around them. They just don't enjoy games anymore but have nothing else in life to turn to.
Yeah, this was me with fighting games in particular for a long time
Hell, though i gradually eased away from them over time, it was just this year when i realized i actually just want to discover more weird noise music and share it with people instead of playing games!
At least you realised it. I myself have felt like that about certain games. Many of these whining "gamers" are such losers they can't even imagine having anything else to do. They see any change as a threat to their very existence.
From my experience, a lot of the people I’ve seen with this view are people in their early 20s who essentially spent a lot of their late childhood and teen years on free to play/ live service games or similar and are feeling disgruntled because they feel like that’s all gaming is.
I think some people in their 20s and younger have been so conditioned by mobile game/ F2P daily login and season pass FOMO bullshit at this stage that it’s just been burned into them sadly
Oh for sure, people, especially if they arent able to buy many games growing up, had to stick to the few they had. But nowadays you can easily play a new one with these mechanics which leads to those mechanics being "the norm" for them I think.
Oh there is certainly that. I'm talking more about the grifters who are mostly in their 30's and 40's, the kind who never grew up. I can see why a lot of people who grew up on a lot of free to play and FOMO games now feel like they do.
