This is the last view of the sun in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, until January 23rd. There will be no sunrise or sunset for the next 66 days. @alaskawx.bsky.social

Sun lamps and vitamin d. And you get use to it. You go to work it's dark, you come home at 5 it's dark. It's just dark for a while. I think the worst part of the year is when the sun comes back and it's all pretty outside but it's 60 below.
I can't even comprehend what 60 below would feel like and when the sun finally shines it would be like Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz going through the door and suddenly everything is in colour. Thank you.
The entire disk of the sun has to be below the horizon for it to count as pre-sunrise or post-sunset. If any part of the sun is above the horizon, it counts as the sun being up. Also, we assume 0.83 degrees of solar refraction. Also, summer is longer than winter in the N. Hemisphere.
The moon is running a crazy timetable right now as well, even down here in Anchorage. Only below the horizon for 2 hours today, has to be running laps up there!

No God.
Why is that?
Or is that 20 days of the sun half setting then coming back up?
But, no... Just no 😂
