There are advantages to multi-member seats with proportional representation within each seat.
There are disadvantages too - both within each seat and in the overall polity.
I could argue either side: but have a mild preference (ahem) for single-member seats.

An impossible dream is a senate based on population, rather than each state having 12,regardless, still elected via proportional representation.
1) it results in policies that have buy-in from much more of the electorate, and the results bear this out (e.g., EIU, V-Dem), and
2) it results in a more collaborative political process and is thus less polarizing.
