Our planet needs all the help she can get. 🙏🏼🐝🌍❤️
* Honey bees are not native to North America
* There are thousands of bee species, and most are not eusocial like honeybees.
* Flys are important pollinators. E.g. Cacao is pollinated by midges.
Etc.
That larger story is fascinating, and almost certainly more "actionable" by the general public.
For example, it's easy to set up a "bee-house" for Mason bees.
I got involved in a project to use image classification to distinguish between hoverflies and honeybees. I had never noticed hoverflies before, but once I knew about them I saw them everywhere.
When we brought it to our current place, it got swarmed immediately .. while sitting in the driveway, waiting to be mounted.
In any case, I def avoid using insecticides around here .. because pollinators.
