Are you using the regular Bandai water decals? If so what methods do you see working? I can never get mine to stick properly, and they dissolve and crumple whenever I use Setter on them

yeah it's the first time I used water slides in general.
I leave the decal in the water quite long, 30+ seconds usually, in the meantime I use a tiny drop of Mr. Mark Setter on the location where I put the decal, then I just place the decal and position it + dry it with a q-tip until I am happy!
for the next two models I plan building (well rg unicorn is already built) I also ordered some delpi decals from SK... I have no experience with them or others than the rg hi-nu bandai ones, but a lot of people seem to like their quality the most
I don't use Softer at all for adhesion. I use Setter for adhesion 100% of the time. Softer only to get around harsh edges or if I want to meld the decal edges themselves into the model much cleaner, which I rarely do tho.
Softer makes the decals brittle in my small experience so I avoid it if I can
I am explaining myself poorly. If I use Softer, I use it on top of the decal, not below it like I would use Setter. So I use Setter first always, and if I need more flexibility in the decal, I put Softer on top and work very carefully with a q-tip to manipulate the decal!
See, I do the same, but sometimes that loosens the decal free bc it's wet again, and then I'll attempt to dry it once more and that's when it disintegrates

Once dry I use matt spray finish, so there is just no chance they can come off :)

we'll get there!
