They're still fundamentally building a closed system, meant to show you what they want you to see and keep you on the platform. They still de-rank links, won't let you default to a following feed, and rely on Instagram for far too much.
It's quite the compliment to Bluesky to openly running scared like this, but I think Meta's entire social media philosophy is just fundamentally incompatible with making this work.
Threads was something to capitalize on the first negative reaction to a Musk Twitter. But now they can’t capitalize on the second one, because their product has no soul. The jury is still out on whether Bluesky will be able to make money without harming the (so far great) user experience.
