Before psychiatrists do any diagnoses can they just get a complete healthcheck done? I had years of dealing with psychiatrists, Prozac, Amitriptyline et al, and after 18 years retirement after 'Depression,' it was found that I was an undiagnosed Coeliac with malnutrition.

13. Overrepresentation of certain dxes in particular population groups (often on the basis of various -isms); e.g., ADHD/ODD/RAD/etc in among foster children/adoptees, schizophrenia in the Black community

I also wonder about FND. Is it an overdiagnosis? Misdiagnosis? Unnecessary diagnosis?

Yeahhh, it's the one I come back to most since I experienced it.

Also- and I'm not quite sure how to word this one as succinctly- but the dynamic of parents who force children/adolescents into dx/tx (but don't seek tx themselves)- thinking especially of the "troubled teen" industry

That's a bit at odds with, "patients generally seek diagnoses willingly", but I'll admit I still generally have to consciously remind myself you tend to write with adults [seeking dx/tx as adults] in mind

Another possible overdiagnosis: All of a sudden people in nursing homes are getting schizophrenia/ psychotic disorder dx despite a lack of substantial lifelong hx or sx-- all because facilities and prescribing drs need to justify the use of antipsychotics for "problem behaviors" :-/
