Related/ not-related - there's Discourse around what is the 'right' term for Chinese people. 中國人?華人? 唐人?漢人? The first elides ethnicity with nationality, the last excludes non-Han ethnic groups from PRC nationality, while the second and third connotes slightly different things to different people.

Yes, in talking with Chinese I would always call Chinese-Americans 'Americans of Chinese ancestry' 华裔美国人 while I would often hear Chinese saying 'Chinese with US citizenship' 美籍华人。 www.pewresearch.org/race-and-eth...

Even PRC state media regularly use 華裔 for Chinese diaspora
In Russian language there are two words, ethnic Russian and Russian citizen, I’m the latter but never “ethnic Russian” and I constantly need to explain the difference.
华人是中华民族群人的简称,而中华民族群并没有得到除了汉人之外的其他被包含在这个民族群的民族的认同,所以是个并不存在的民族群,也就不存在所谓华人。
唐人就是乱七八糟的瞎叫了。
