So, when it reads historical fantasy how much history are you interested in? I have one short ready to go that's 2nd century bce Black Forest Germania, but with some clear breaks from anthropological history.

We're fine with it.

Robin Hood, King Arthur, Merlin, Sigurd, Hercules, Gilgamesh... They're all good.

Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Historical Fiction and everything inbetween. Historical Mysteries, Romance, Speculative History, all good.

Well, in-story they're called orcs but the description matches neanderthals. There's what is called an ogre, but it's Gigantopithicus.

Robert E. Howard did something like that in a story ("Red Nails") during which Conan and Valeria are attacked by a "dragon" but it is clearly a dimosaur.
