To be fair, That 90s Show is intentionally anachronistic with some of the references. Like the specific Boyz II Men reference was after the heyday of Nirvana, so they're not being super chronological about stuff.
But they're technically correct about Amy Rose, which is the best kind of correct
Hi, Jim. Longtime follower and big fan. I pitched an idea for a video in your channel, somewhere deep in the comments of the Disco Stu History, but now I fear that’s not a place where you would see it so I’m going to give one final chance here before I forget about it. Best!
Hey Tom, sorry for being so late in replying to this! I've always been kind of mystified at wondering what the stylistic decision is between doing the generic brand parody and name-dropping the real thing. I usually prefer generic but would like better naming conventions than Mapple 🙄
Yeah, if they're influencing Nirvana themselves (or at least influencing the album Nevermind), then these events would have to take place in what, 1990? Before any of the other stuff the episode references?
i saw this frame a lot ever since i was a kid without ever seeing the simpsons. when i learned the context of it coming from the episode that supposedly takes place in the 90s i also got really miffed about this lol.
You know when I heard you mention Boys of Bummer I realized I don't think you've ever done a review of it for your "Worst Episode Ever" series. curious if you ever plan to do that or if you think everything's already been said. You tend to have really interesting takes even on well-known eps
There's a weird trend where people make Sonic jokes SPECIFICALLY about him and Amy being a couple, despite their whole dynamic that Sonic does not return her affection.
I guess if you're a comedy writer that has only seen these two in passing, one would assume they're a Mickey & Minnie thing.
Thats incorrect - Sonic does like Amy romantically as it has been heavily implied to be canon both in canon and by the creators. Amy was specifically designed to be the Minnie Mouse to Sonic’s Mickey, which he is also based on design wise.
