It begins with mindset - of professionals, family, friends. The professionals presuming competence, not making assumptions, or putting limits on possibility, on friednship - even on bilingualism and the Irish language especially when spoken words don't come and it seems a child might not understand.

And for family and friends to simply be there, and not makes assumptions, either, whether it's high support needs and a non-speaking child, or low support needs. Whether there are services or there aren't - people need both services and community....

In Australia we have AEIOU centres that was started by parents in the same boat.
Maybe there could be some connection to Ireland as far as advice. Etc.
