Hopefully (there's that word again), with Danso showing he can hold his own in the toughest situations, Ange will feel able to push the defensive line up and get us squeezing up more. Might as well, eh?
On the bright side, as 'unacceptable' as the 3-6 defeat was, it was more acceptable than that 4-0. As Postecoglou has said all along, the performance almost matters as much as the result.
Here's what I predict: despite the (lucky) win against Brentford, we're not good when trying to Nuno our way through a game, so we'll go for it again, as best we can despite the fatigue. To hell with the risk of getting hammered 3-6. My biggest concern is how bad we are without a strong, linking 9.
I don't get it either. We lost away to arguably the best team in the world right now, really 2-0 (Ange went for broke with the formation change down a goal on agg), the last 2 goals were throwaways. Played poorly, but so did Liverpool in the 1st leg.
I agree some supporters enjoy the losses because they think it's the only way to ditch ENIC. Putting them aside, I'm exhausted by the excuses and avoidance of accountability this roster and manager get every time they play poorly.
A well played loss to Liverpool at Anfield, you can accept & hope for success down the road, but that was not the case yesterday. That game was particularly deflating. It will take a few days to patch the holes so hope can reinflate. A win against Villa will be a great start! #COYS
I don't let my hopes get too inflated. This season was always going to be sticky. I'm mostly hoping for an acceptable finish to the league, and a good summer, then looking forward to going again. Europa still possible, but we're knackered and injuries still a problem, so not hopeful about that.
That's reason to be cheerful for sure. To be clear, I'm not angry or upset. I just don't have any big expectations. It's the expectation that kills you. Expecting to win a coin toss v. different from hoping to win one. 🙂
Yes, I continue to try to add more to my half full glass until it mistakenly overflows. I am cleaning up the residue of fandom mess now, but soon, I will be back at it, glass in hand searching for rays of sunshine in the near or long term forecast. (A Steph-inspired allegorical post). 😁 #COYS
I'm still glass half full, and it's filling, not emptying (I think). I'm not sure I can feel hopeful it's ever going to be full until we have the benefit of a summer window and next season to draw on. Summer feels pivotal.
Now especially, I hope for a measure of success to provide reason for Tel to sign on for the long term. While not particularly evident yesterday, his quality will soon come to the fore. I still believe a strong finish is achievable. If Slot prevents that other team in red from winning, great! #COYS
Villa is too soon for me. We have again for 3000th time this season play a good side with a week rest, when our survivors from the injury crisis had zero days rest
I unfortunately agree, which is why my faint hopes lie with the Europa Cup. By that next tie, hopefully Tel will have embedded & enough of the squad returned to make Spurs legitimately competitive. #COYS
no, it will just allow them one more week to reissue the articles already in their draft files. we’re hearing the same things now even though we beat brentford.
This comment on a @cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com.web.brid.gy post says it all for me. I choose optimism, even in the face of overwhelming, exogenously-imposed odds against us.
Likely a selection effect there, since the other teams getting less rest are also the ones that have been in lots of different competitions (and so are also likely to be the better teams). Maybe also some EL or EFL weirdness because of other/lower leagues' schedules.
I'm beginning to think the step up to European football for PL teams is more unsustainable than the step up from the Championship to PL. At least, for clubs that don't brazenly dodge PSR and spend well outside their means.
I think we’ll give Villa a game. It’s just whether we can keep them from scoring (conceding really really unsettles us) and make subs to keep our energy levels up.
My biggest issue is not conceding 4 against Liverpool, it’s the way we did it. It’s one thing to ’die with our boots on’ and another thing whatever we saw yesterday. Senior players looking so passive and lethargic.
Yes they are knackered, but this was one of those games to give everything you got.
I think they used Brentford as a template (as widely discussed) but Liverpool are not Brentford and, crucially, took their chances. Our stats for Liverpool and Brentford remarkably, even though we won the latter. Team looked like they were (v tiredly) trying to luck through it again.
Yeah, it's weird the meltdowns..
We played poorly. Really bad.
Liverpool are good.
We have injuries and a squad dead on their feet.
We've got players coming back.
We have players to move on / need a good summer.
We also have money, 'pool have shown, run well you can achieve a lot. It'll be OK.
They are. But a lot of fans think they shouldn't be. Or at least think they shouldn't be *this* painful. Personally I think the pain with make us stronger, better.

We need the team to revert to pure Angeball again.

Why does the sky fall every time they lose?
it’s the state of our society.
I do feel a bit gloomy about Shiny AI Slot coming along and seemingly replacing Pep in unassailability, but that's a whole other thing.
I will be surprised if we are competitive
I just hope it is not Son, he needs rest
Even Ipswich and Leicester have beaten us after having a week more to prepare.
look at forest, bournemouth, palace, everton, and even newcastle, on this list.
Will make it all the better when we destroy Manchester United for the third time this season
