Brentford are a much much better team than Utd, especially at home, so understandable that we were better in an attacking sense today (even if 2nd half decision making was poor). But I was pleased with the battling qualities shown in both games.

Exactly that. It's only a matter of time if he keeps getting himself in good positions like that and those around him get the measure of his movement. A little bit off today, which you'd expect given how new he is to the squad. He was much better than Højlund (22, €60m) and Zirkzee (23, €50m).

Seems like a flawed metric in the sense that Tel and Maddison both ended up with the same xG, given the ease of Maddison's chance. Can't think of any chances Tel should have scored from really.

xG isn't hugely reliable in individual cases. It's better used in aggregate. Maddison had one shot which generated about the same xG as a penalty would (pens are ~.78-.79 xG). Tel had 7 shots that in aggregate generated the same. Lots of shots, statistically, will result in goals.

His data suggests he scores actual goals at around the same rate as his xG, so if he keeps doing what he did yesterday, even if he doesn't improve his finishing (which he should), then he'll end up scoring goals. He takes a lot of low xG shots with a relatively low chance of them converting to gls.

As a non stats man (they’re to complicated for me), the eye test on Tel in general attacking play yesterday showed a lack of understanding on what our passing flow in attacks is, hopefully now we’re training properly again this can be sorted, because I thought he was very bright and motivated.

That's exactly what I thought, too. He was more or less in the right places, but he wasn't quite ready, his body and feet not positioned optimally. He seemed a beat behind the action, which is common for players coming to the PL for the first time where the pace is often what they need to adjust to.
