That wasn't how they did it. They simply put in a "By now, our heroes wpuld have been dying for a bowl of soup..." and then talked it up in the middle of the plot.

I experienced these. I had several books with these, can't remember which ones exactly, but SciFi or Fantasy translated to German. And yes, it would have kinda worked better without the logo, but it's still a break of the suspension of disbelief.
Found it on Reddit. Seems you are correct about it being Germany. I really hope the Comedy = Tragedy + Time equation worked in your favor quickly in this. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sandman/s/Ar3hgYOc5O
Ah; this explains my battered old copy of Elliot S! Maggin's novel SOUPERMAN: LAST SON OF CROUTON, which I'd always assumed was just a cack-handed misprint.
Someone needed to write a story in which the character would feel nauseous any time they saw, smelt, or even thought about soup, to send over for publication.

(and wrong. OBVIOUSLY wrong. But WOW)
Why do all the inserted pages start "Zwischendurch:"? ("Meanwhile:"?)
Are the inserted pages just, like, inserted in the middle of a sentence?
Is the soup any good?
I have to assume the "Meanwhile" is because they do in fact insert them in the middle of a sentence.
At least they aren't included in the page numbering
Always one of the funniest ads to me.
