Calling that one fan fiction is a stretch. Another author tried to cash in with a sequel and Cervantes got mad about it which is why he did a real sequel and calls out the one that made him mad.
Less fan fiction and more like not disney doing a frozen 3 (not disguised rip off, claiming is a sequel)
Now at the time that kind of thing was pretty common to happen with popular things so not as bad as it looks from now. But part of the reason Cervantes was mad is the unauthorized sequel seemed to miss the point of the original.
