Carney, fidgety hands but leaning in and active - sincere and compelled
Felon, slumped body and almost completely unmoving but aware and engaged at the end - exhaustion or anti-anxiety meds, delayed reactions.
Not an expert in body language, but Trump seldom makes eye contact with Carney, which is a trait of his when in the room with people he trashes when they're not around. It was the same with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He refused to take her hand for cameras and couldn't look her in the eye.
2 of 15/ Yesterday, Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney met with Donald Trump in the Oval Office. What follows is a partial body language analysis of one crucial portion of their exchange.
Yesterday, Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney met with a sack of rotten potatoes that Moscow has rejected from their vodka production facilities.
What follows is an analysis of what actually happened.
Thank you, Dr. Brown.
3 of 15/ This segment begins with PM Carney saying, "As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale. We're sitting in one right now. You know Buckingham Palace, you visited as well..."
5 of 15/ A few seconds later, the Prime Minister continues, ".. Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign – last several months, it's not for sale, won't be for sale – *ever* [Carney's emphasis] ..."
As a Canadian, with our country on the line, I watched intently for body language on both sides. Trump’s simultaneous head tilt/eyebrow lift has me concerned. What it signalled to me was a non-verbal “We’ll see about that”, or “Whatever”.
That’s what I assumed his expressions meant. He was playing nice for the first meeting while planning on stabbing him in the back on the way out of the office.
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on the adult in the room.
Love this. I would also like to know your thoughts on Carney's body language. I've heard our own far-right group here in Canada say he looked "weak" and "out of his league". I didn't get that impression myself.
I saw the clip that showed the ‘never for sale’ exchange on news. Didn’t watch the whole thing as even his voice is noxious. Enjoyed reading your notes though.
The was so good!
Just want you to know how much I appreciate all you do to keep people informed.
(I initially put this is the wrong place.

Thank you Sir. I could see exactly the expressions you pointed out and understand what they each meant. Thank you for helping make him even more reprehensible!

Thank you, Dr. Brown.
Trump was directing his contempt either at members of the UK government and/or the Royal family (upon hearing "Buckingham Palace") – or at PM Carney.
#weird
• A bilateral eyebrow flash (brief elevation of both eyebrows)
• A left head tilt
• An asymmetrical pseudo-smile
• "That's what YOU think!"
• "Boy are YOU in for a surprise!"
• "Just wait 'til you see what happens!"
It’s not very reassuring to see this.

I have been waiting for this analysis.
I just don’t get it.
Feigned incompetence?
How is it missed by so many, so often…
