It was just meant to be a simple job: clear out some zombies, get some supplies if they can, and mark down coordinates if there's more than they can carry. And it is easy—until it isn't lol

They find a place where the horde is much bigger than what they are presently equipped to handle. While they manage to get to a place that's relatively safe, they are faced with two options. Option 1 is that they die trying while option 2 is for Gwen to slip away and escape.
And Gwen's not about that until Vaughn tells her that he will slow her down if he tries. He can't run as fast as her, he will die. So, even if Gwen slips away to get help, there's a 50/50 chance that Vaughn will be dead by the time help arrives. But one dead scout is better than two.
Reluctantly, Gwen agrees and leaves. Vaughn thinks "alright, I got a few bullets, let's see what I can do". But Gwen is right back saying that no, she doesn't like those options. They suck and he sucks for thinking that shit. Before she stumbled upon the "town" Vaughn's in, Gwen survived—
with a girl who can't do anything (Katie), a sick kid (Tim), and her brothers who are all trying to make the best of what they have. So, she's not big on the idea of leaving Vaughn behind. They aren't friends but she's got loyalty she can't let go of. And she's loyal to those she works with.
I imagine Sabrina would have snuck extra clips/bullets for Vaughn's sniper rifle before they went out. And Gwen, in the rare cases of blonde bimbo moment, literally didn't get it. She doesn't use a rifle, she uses handguns and knives. Why would Sabrina give her this?
IT HITS HER IT'S FOR THIS. For the rare cases that it MIGHT be needed FOR VAUGHN. But yeah, with a couple of bullets so Vaughn can cover her, her knife, and pure adrenaline, Gwen and him fight their way out.
It ain't easy but they do it. This is literally Gwen by the end of it.
