Seems as if chopper was being directed by ATC in one direction, and ATC didn't clarify upon other situational operations occurring at the same time. Chopper was looking right towards approach, as directed by ATC, and didn't see the Left. Seems to be a failure of detailed & clear comms and equipment.

The flight tower control operator instructed the chopper to cross Behind the path of the American Airlines flight.

Apparently, the black hawk decided to go in front.

I saw an air traffic controller make a comment on this situation, and he made amazing points. It appears the tower operator wasn't being Clear and Detailed enough about this intersection, according to the guy making the comments. I couldn't get a screen of it as it was too long, but seems on point.
