People say this a lot and it sounds nice but the clean separation of responsibilities in this way leads to complete nightmare outcomes. The incentives and goals must be the same, otherwise you optimize for blame over outcomes.

To clarify, Engineering may be responsible for the solution but Product is ultimately accountable and needs to be involved. Have you been on a team operating with complete separation? I've never seen that and agree it sounds like a nightmare.
