Depends on the cost structure and that depends on policy. No reason why capital costs (much of which you will incur anyway when you change car/boilers) can't be both reduced (grants for heat pumps) and spread (gov backed loans). So yes, it is mindset and that depends on policy.

Other nuggets: we need some carbon capture and sequestration- not just a fossil industry conspiracy, fossil industry dependent communities require support to transition, and levies need to be removed from electricity bills.

The vision though: our 2040 lives will have a much reduced cost of living, will be far healthier, and we will enjoy greater security. Surely we can sell that with the right supports for the transition?

Massively agree - climate policy shouldn't be seen as about cutting things out (meat, driving, flying, etc.). There are loads of benefits that govt don't talk about as much (lower bills, cleaner air, etc.) and govt need to lean into the point that this is about making places and homes nicer/better

This is not going to happen, is it, given that it depends on government to require, & the public to tolerate without voting Reform, a big spike in capex in the next few years? Kick into the long grass incoming, I fear.

I just don't know. Consumers and heavy industry are the unknown frontier. Capex is not the major concern for me. Behaviours are. And the politics therein.
