I found this piece encouraging. Thank you. I hope at least some of this recognition trickles down to MAGA voters who aren’t the supposed “thinkers” of the movement.
"I didn't expect his hateful policies to reduce my net worth!"
- Say the wealthy who fully endorsed his hateful policies hurting blacks, minorities, immigrants and the LGBT while rendering our planet a polluted husk unsuitable to human life in the near future.
This is a very good piece. I do think it’s important to understand the rationalizations and fixations that got us here. The only people I’m interested in standing up for now are the people being swept up and sent to be tortured simply for wanting part of the “American Dream.” The rest of us can rot.
The degree to which these rich, powerful, influential men were utterly delusional is quite frankly scary. I don’t think there’s a better condemnation of late-stage capitalism than the fact that it elevates such men.
“Trump‘s tariffs have pushed some to the breaking point because they reveal the immediate material cost of that stupidity”. Americans don’t care about cruelty, about dictatorship, or even about their fellow citizens. It’s only when they feel the pain in their own pocketbook that they take notice.
"Irving Kristol famously said that neoconservatives were liberals who’d been “mugged by reality.” Maybe soon we’ll need a similar word for the right wingers who can’t stand to live in the world they helped build."
Please stop quoting Richard Hanania, who ran a white supremacist alt and contributed to Project 2025. No one needs to hear his opinion.
Media's obsession with conversion narratives mean readers are constantly being force-fed grifters. Pam Hemphill has given how many interviews? Just stop, please.
Let’s ask MAGA, is this the kind of greatness you voted for? Of course, 15% of them would say, “Uh yup” like Goofy. There’s another 40% who’d say, “I’m tough and I can handle a rocky road” channeling John Wayne.

Where? When?
And yes, I’m using “men” very deliberately.
