Honestly, this gulf of America thing bothers me for sure but I say let him have it. It’s ultimately dumb and meaningless and can be easily changed later. But it can also be pointed to as a “This helped no one” thing. Oh it showed “strength?” So did bombing Afghanistan, but that also helped no one.
