The Reckoning of Roku is such a downgrade from the past two Avatar novel series.
The way it handles Sozin and Roku's relationship is straight up terrible. Sozin himself is stripped of any redeeming qualities, his companions are boring clichés, and his role in the story feels almost shoehorned.

We know the betrayal is coming, but the Sozin's decline should have been steady and subtle. Roku and him shouldn't be having major conflicts IMMEDIATELY after Roku leaves for training. It just makes Roku look foolish.
Look, I appreciate what it does for his relationship with Gyatso, the best character in the book. But it otherwise felt like a boilerplate tragic backstory to give him internal conflict re: Gyatso and Sozin.
Also, minor gripe: Why did the audio books keep the same narrator? The first two series were about female Avatars, so the female narrator made sense.
This time? Eeehhh...
