How many years was he functionally the GM? I know everybody is keen on the Brady breakup and downturn, but given what Caserio has done for my Texans after O'Brien salted the earth behind him is remarkable...
That said, do you think his more precipitous decline was in coaching innovation or in player personnel? Because he's definitely drafted like shit for about a decade, maybe longer.
Definitely personnel. All the brilliant scheming in the world doesn't matter when you're whiffing on offense in every draft and insisting on bargain-basement FA pickups.
He can still build the shit out of a defense. But that A) takes time, which he doesn't have and B) means he accepts much less power than he's used to. I think he goes to the Chargers.
That’s really the key issue though. Even if he does manage to instill the Patriot Way in some terrible franchise like the Falcons, how many years are you gonna get out of him? He’s already over 70.
Maybe the Titans for a short spell? He lives part-time in Franklin, outside of Nashville, anyway. Don't know if Titans owner would want to spend enough to let him build what he wants though.
