I think all future referendums should be based on a negotiated deal before the vote. In NI you could read the whole Good Friday Agreement before voting on it. No one else holds referendums like this, where everyone is guessing what will happen after, and you decide which side is guessing better.
I completely agree it’s the most stark example of the danger of being undefined. But even the SNP’s campaign, which was significantly better thought out & explained couldn’t be more than an estimate on how negotiations would go. Voters shouldn’t have to bind themselves till they have all the facts
That's not specific to IndyScot btw. It's insane that Cameron asked the public to vote on two such consequential refs without any facts or certainties. Imagine buying a house that way Yes/No but no solid information on what you're getting? And those are easier to get out of!
But that’s what they *hoped* they could do, there’s no guarantee they could get any of it. I’m not blaming them, they did the best they could given Cameron’s stupid planning. But the only binding referendum should be after the plan has been negotiated so people know what they’re voting for.
