It’s a degree that really cherishes service. It’s not a degree to make the most money. Which isn’t my goal. I just want to improve science to protect and save the lives of people and property. It’s depressing how that isn’t being valued right now.

I personally think that is the most honorable goal a person can have in this new age. I also cannot think of a more frustrating path. I have no formal education, and grew up with bigots. My uncle almost punched me yesterday because he got so angry when I was “lying” about trump being a felon.

This all feels like a fitting endpoint to decades of American culture sliding toward blind, unconditional worship of the wealthy.

It's like the oligarchs have started to believe their own con: that their net worth being 10^6 times ours signifies a ratio of merit or value, vs. mainly exploitation.

I’m a college freshman who is also about to step in the world of meteorology and other geosciences and I’m also very depressed. Really scared about losing access to geophysical data too and not being able to do my degree because NSF and NOAA grants are being illegally obstructed.

Hang in there...I'm trying to have faith that things will turn around. Early careers are always a bit scary. We need you and pre-thank you for your service!! (BTW, i think I would have enjoyed studying meteorology!)
