My mother in law was like "oh, I didn't know D and her sister are that close!" because we aren't constantly up in each other's business, but my sister is an amazing human being and I love her to bits and either will activate for the other for anything from "I am sad" to "major crisis" in an instant

We can forget to talk to each other for like a year sometimes because we're both really busy and bad at keeping track of elapsed time, but both of us know we can tap the other in for anything we need! (She did say "this is a really dramatic way to get us to actually schedule a visit", lol.)

Holy shit did this just explain some lost friendships. I have no time sense in friendship and they do. It could have been a day or a decade, for me, same same. For them, we can only be close if we're constantly in contact (?) which makes no sense. Why? How?

I'm so glad you're letting her come help! You deserve to be able to tap out & embrace the breakdown for a few days, and then have a couple of days of getting on with things that aren't in crisis mode post-surgery.
