Not shouting! Shouting is suspicious. But someone trained in theatrical projection can make themselves heard a lot further than you think, and oh gosh, officers, I just want to make sure all your paperwork is in order before I escort you through the building, I don't want to get in trouble.

If the raid is for your building in particular, they may have someone stationed at all the exits. Or they may not. But even if they do, you making sure everyone in the room behind you knows what's going on may give someone who needs it the *chance* for a fortuitously timed smoke break to work.

(Leaving a pack of cigarettes with two cigarettes in it and a spare lighter at every exit door to the building, to give someone cover for why they just stepped outside that has nothing to do with the jackbooted thugs at the door, can also be a good idea.)

I bet most service workers have run the head game on customers where you become just a little too solicitous and just a little too bad at your job so as to cause everything to take two and a half times as long as you drop one page, then another, ohnoooo. It's a great way to disrupt a process

because you're being friendly and helpful the whole time, but I don't recommend it unless you practice it regularly. It's not actually bad service, it's a routine, but I'd shy away from doing something you don't normally do for the first time around police
