And, well. Ollie genuinely intended to bring Roy back to the Nation for visits and holidays and everything, but see above re: Ollie's raging case of ADHD: Roy missed more events than he made it to. Which of course Roy feared was interpreted as "rich boy doing a 'fuck you, got mine'".

In short, a complete clusterfuck of everyone involved trying to do the right thing, including a 13-year-old Roy. But that's why Roy ends up in Arizona once he has Lian! Because his daughter is *going* to know her people.

Yes! It’s actually one of those moments that makes me a little woo about writing, because IIRC we’d already dropped Guy’s bar in Phoenix well *before* we worked out the details with Roy, but it also made it make perfect sense, then, for Roy to move to Phoenix once Lian was a little older.

A relatively chill major city with good transit connections that’s close enough to the Nation for it not to be a miserable drive, with the single best babysitter option Roy could ask for given his situation. No, it really does ring very true to my ears. True enough that I was telling mom about it last night and she told me a story about a "uncle" who had dealt with something similiar and just ran away to an entire other state to escape it. That shit is so dark and we never talk about it. :-(
