I miss the era when people would create loving ASCII maps and charts and detailed walkthroughs and generally spend hundreds of hours of their time to spare fellow players from having to pay $30 for the strategy guide. Organizations making wiki "walkthroughs" is nowhere near the same.

It could also be that it was a time when Nintendo expected to make money from licensing the sale of official strategy guides and their paid tip hotlines.

There were a few puzzles but nothing hard enough to need a guide for almost people.
The time when it seemed plausible that holding down and B helped catch Pokémon because no one was decompiling the code to see if that did anything.
Also I’ll defend Ocarina of Time with fists and claws.
