I acknowledge it is theoretical, but what can you say right now to persuade a non-Indy voter that there is a route to Indy, after the SC ruling?

I think we need the FM to come out with a definitive statement on the way ahead. I think threatening to withdraw from the Treaty of Union might at least make people sit up and take notice.

It would if it was possible. Alas I know there is no legal basis upon which to do this.
The treaty is "spent". The signatories were the sovereign states of England & Scotland. They ceased to exist as sovereign states on its implementation of such & the UK took over.

Our argument is indeed based on this fact. We do not have the sovereign power to take this action, whereas England *effectively* does because of the number of MPs it has in the HoC.

Yes, I’ve read differing opinions on this course of action. I think our best argument is to ask WM whether England ceased to exist as a country. If they insist it is a country, then so is Scotland, and that ought to give us the right to repeal the Treaty. I bet the lawyers would love that approach.

You're conflating sovereign state with country there, and it won't fly. England exists. Scotland exists. But not as sovereign states. The lawyers are the ones I read about this.

Whatever the legal position, I still think it would be worth the Scottish Government starting a public debate on this matter. At the very least, it might result in some English politician telling us that Scotland doesn’t exist.

Why do you think the SNP lost 39 MPs earlier this year?
You have this the wrong way round. People need to be convinced of viability, which means demonstrating a route. No route means people stay at home.

I think there was many factors why the SNP lost 39 MPs earlier this year . However I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on the whole Salvo/Lib thing .

I heard John Swinney say that he was pressing Starmer and the U.K. government for the same border poll rights as NI - ie if polls suggest that this is in majority. He spoke about Scottish sovereignty.

I hope that’s true. However, unless he makes a huge public song & dance about it, I fear he’ll simply be ignored. He needs to make Starmer make a public announcement denying Scotland the right to self-determination. That would swing the polls even further in our favour.

Not via Wm, I'm inclined to agree. But the ICJ/UN route to have us declared a colony would mean being entitled to decolonise, and entitled to have a referendum on independence.
