#NurseSky at what stage does banding not become important? As a band 7 becoming a band 8a is really important to me, however people in very senior roles say banding isn't important. What are your thoughts?

Hi, I think that the intention with AFC banding was to create fairness and equality around pay, however as you go up the scale it becomes more about the impact and influence you have and can create in your role. I think it’s always important & hopefully in senior roles pay reflects impact.
I think job roles are more important from the perspective of what you bring to the role - your knowledge & expertise to make a difference & that is reflected in your job title, rather than a pay banding/ scale.
I have never been comfortable with pay banding being written in patient notes.
Being paid fairly for the job you do is a basic right. If all managers actively encouraged re-submission of job descriptions, then budgets could be blown💥... It's maybe easier to preach that banding isn't important when you're sitting in a highly banded post and holding a budget? 🤔
