What most AI supporters fail to realise, is that we aren’t looking for a “better” version of Studio Ghibli, because better graphics, more render and just more quantity would defeat the meaning of the Ghibli’s filmography itself.
“Oh but you do Ghibli fanart, you copy them too”.
It inspire us. We are moved by it and makes us want to create for the sake of expressing ourselves, to express a fraction of how this piece of art makes us feel.
This whole fiasco is the best representation of “creative” fast food and using art as just monetary gain.
And how it directly contradicts the whole Miyazaki ideology and work ethics, it’s the worst case of media literacy that I have seen in a while.
There's nothing less Ghibli than replicating its art without soul or meaning. And there's nothing more Ghibli than being inspired by Ghibli and creating fanart of it (the plot of The Wind Rises is about this, in part).
Except cool flying things, maybe. That's very Ghibli.
