Well I played Sun and Moon together in the lead up to USUM then played those 2. And I like playing Pokemon. Heck I have played Ultra Sun twice and plan on replaying Ultra Moon for the second time soon.

Start: he is very motivated to be the champion, even more thsn the protag but doesnt show how much training and how much he studied since he is so concerned about trhowing the balls, he never gets a chance to shine

After he loses to bede it becomes depressing as he just kinds gives up, and you as the protag have no reason but keep making him lose, but also he hasnt shown any real growth as a trainer so maybe he is actually bad, but after he kinds gets better he just follows around while you do everything

Until finally he is just given the power of the dog to defeat the bad guy, he proves basically that he is worthy of the title of hero and he is the second strongesy champion in the region basically.
But then it says "nuh huh, guess ill just be a scientist"
