We could, for example, set a high price on all of our currently-free street parking and use the revenue exclusively to accelerate neighbourhood and collector renewal, which usually has decent safety improvements, or to the "towards 40"(?) program. Not that it'd be popular, but we could.

I am a pretty strong rule-follower. Despite that, when I am aware that there aren’t photo radar traps, I do tend to be heavier on the gas pedal, especially when the flow of traffic is also going faster.

Never thought I’d be pro-speed traps.

I almost got hit by a pickup truck crossing 111 ave at the linear park - it’s 6 lanes of traffic at 60 kph, with only an overhead flashing light to cross. 5 lanes of traffic stopped, the truck driver didn’t even slow down.

PLEASE send an email to Rutherford! I contacted Janz about this and he supported having a proper traffic light there. Rutherford only promised to take a look at the issue. I talked with Rutherford's staffer last week about it again. But more of us need to complain!!

Should UCP reinstate photo radar? Yes

Was it a mistake for City to use photo radar revenue for general funds, never fixing the design trap of streets that feel like you can/should drive faster? Also yes.

Photo radar revenue should only be spent on physical changes to streets to make them safer.

The right move here is for the City to offer a plan to only spend photo radar money on street improvements that lowers the design speed to the posted speed limit of the problem spot.

Once proven no longer a problem spot, photo radar would be moved to the next speeding problem area.

Instead of a reserve fund for priorities, the money should go to the specific intersection or street from which the fines were collected to make it so people are generally not speeding.
