Please consider the ethics of using animals for entertainment. The #Animals cannot consent. They're imprisoned for life. Animal slave parks teach children commodification of animals. Please consider watching #Earthlings on https://NationEarth.com narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. Please eat #PlantBased. #GoVegan
Hi Damien, I never said they were 100% bad. Of course they do some good work. They must do that for PR purposes or they would never have any customers, and the government would probably shut them down. My post was specific about questioning the ethics or imprisoning animals since they can't consent.
Firstly, the notion that fins droop in captivity is a misconception.
Secondly, a question: Do you truly think that those of us who work in the field truly do what we do for entertainment? Because I can assure you it’s definitely not for the minimum wage.
The Orca's fins are made of fibrous connective tissue, and the lack of natural movement and support in captivity can cause them to collapse. Dorsal fin collapse does occur in wild orcas, but it's much less common.
In the past, zoos provided a cruel opportunity for people who would never see such animals. Today they are completely unnecessary, we have the internet.
Sanctuary, yes. Zoo no.

Joaquin Phenoix surely means well, but he has no formal education in animal husbandry, behavior, or anything of the sort.

I’m not a fan of cetacean captivity either, but I compartmentalize. I can hold the places accountable and not generalize them all as bad.
Sanctuary, yes. Zoo no.
Sanctuaries focus on saving individuals, and are far less regulated by government officials.
