"As part of this staffing reduction, the DHP branches that produced HIV incidence estimates and provided the statistical expertise needed to assess PrEP coverage were eliminated.

CDC is currently evaluating plans and capacity to resume this work."

More bad news - there is no data on people of trans experience in the most recent surveillance data along with this horrible statement that now appears on most HIV pages. I'm trying to remember if prior surveillance data sets included people of trans experience. At the very least, I do know...

They *can't* publish it. As a (former) CDC scientist. I have to make that distinction here. Everything that's published has to be approved by DOGE now. You cant publish anything without their approval

I was really hoping I could look all smart and fancy by pinpointing when they started, but my memory is fuzzy too, and some of the stuff I’ve located (on our sites and elsewhere) only helps a little. I recall the HIV field mostly stopped classifying trans women as "men who have sex with men" in the 2010s, but don't know when CDC switched. Like you, I've had trouble finding historical data. I sometimes saved PDFs of important studies, but for govt resources, I figured I could always look it up.🤦‍♀️

Many who work on federally funded surveillance systems were told to comply with executive orders and remove references to gender and the "T" in LGBTQ+. Thats what we did in my branch. The data for trans folks still exists. It just won't be published under this admin unfortunately 😔
