Her music made an indelible impact on my undergraduate days in college! It was calming, peaceful, and so relevant as it is "timeless." Thank you Ms. Roberta - your music is part of out "better angels" on this troubled Earth!
My daughter asked me what 'Killing me softly' was about. I told her it was a song written about Don McLean, but I wasn't sure about who actually wrote the song.
Lori Lieberman wrote and sang it first. Ms. Flack heard it in a flight and before the plane landed, she had already rearranged it in her heard and written part of the rearrangement on paper. She re-recorded it and the rest is history.
R.I.P. Roberta Flack. It's funny just about a month ago I added the song Killing me softly to my Spotify. She will be missed. She sang like an angel now she is one.
Hearing about the passing of Roberta Flack this morning was heartbreaking 💔 Her voice fills the house with memories of some of the greatest music of our lifetime.
May she rest in eternal peace in Paradise 🙏🏻🕊️
As a teen, when my very first love and I broke up,
I remember sitting in the car crying and playing
"Killing Me Softly" over and over. 😭
I still have an emotional connection to that
song. #RestInPeaceRobertaFlack
There will never be anyone like you.💔
That "First Time" song of hers always brings chill bumps on my arms. I only listen to it rarely because I never want it to lose that special feeling. Truly a wonderful artist. Rest in peace Roberta.
Roberta flack is my grandma’s favorite artist back in days when she still rocking the world, lol.
I hope her soul rest in the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ.. amen
Oh I just LOVED seeing her in New York with @rhondacates.bsky.social way back when at the famous Bluenote club! Met her after and she was just so so lovely and kind and friendly! Rest in power Roberta!
In the news it said, Grammy Award-winning singer Roberta Flack (this photo was taken in 1969), whose intimate vocal and musical style made her one of the top recordings artists of the late 20th century, has died aged 88 - very sad
Flack was known for social activism & involvement in the civil rights movement. She befriended Rev. Jesse Jackson and Angela Davis. She was a guest on the feminist children’s television program Free to Be…You and Me, performing alongside a young Michael Jackson.
Her talent was
Stellar.
She dwells among the stars now.
Rest in Power, Super Star Ms. Flack.
Important side notes;
Ms. Flack was also an activist. She befriended Jesse Jackson & Angela Davis. She marched with Rev. Al Sharpton. She founded Roberta Flack School of Music, free to underprivileged kids.
Hoping we have all had or will have our own personal The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly moments in life. A legend and treasure who will be missed and not forgotten.
She was incredible and a huge part of my earliest memories. My mother would play her albums (and yours) on repeat… I loved listening! May she be at peace with the angels! ❤️
So much love in her voice. Just watched the Luther Vandross documentary, and her comments about his talent were so gracious. Her voice brings my teens back in such clarity. Rest in Power, Roberta Flack. 💐
I’m from North Carolina and saw this painting of her on a building in Black Mountain, NC where she was born. She was one of the greatest musical talents out there in a category all her own.
