80% Francis appointees is a very good thing - his last major pronouncement was basically "You, specifically, John David Vance, are wrong on basically everything it means to be Catholic and Christian."
The chances of getting a reactionary pope (let alone arch reactionary) are very slim post V2. Even someone more conservative than Francis will basically be more orthodox theologically (a la Benedict) than politically conservative. Most of the cardinals don’t like the Americans so Dolan won’t happen
Also JP2 and Benedict weren’t as conservative as non Catholics think either. JP2 supposedly wrote stuff back in the day about the permissibility of armed Revolution and Benedict talked, at least once, about democratic socialism being good
