Install two sensors - one for each room. And if they go out of sync, you know something is wrong 😜

Why not both? Template sensor to the rescue. Setup for room A then add a template use the room A entiry as source for room B template.

Then just redo your automations to fire anytime door A or door B open. Or get fancy and make a condition that both door A and door B have to be open....

If A has outside access, put them in B; think of home security as a series of perimeters, consider sensors can be tampered with, and place accordingly.

Amigo. You have helped me somewhat with my own similar dilemma. They will now be something like room_entry and room_exit. Or room1room2_door. I might choose the 2nd idea. It tells me which two rooms are connected.

For my mud room, I have one door that opens into our garage and the other door opens into the kitchen.

I have the former titled “garage door” and the latter titled “house entrance”, located in the Mud Room area.

Discord really didn’t like that I do this when I shared my dashboard once. 🤣

I tend to name things based on its intended use - so for me, what it controls will identify what room it should be in.

The room they open towards, as that owns the majority of the door mass.
Unless it's a sliding door, then you're on your own.

If the door leads to an "end" room (i.e storage room) then it's a storage room. If it's between 2 areas, I'll ask my wife what she would find more logical. I can adapt, my wife is the end user (the least i can do, since she allows my antics.

As for naming I would name such doors as "Door room-A/room-B". But back to the original question, you could have a mental rule that it always belong to the room that is closer to your main entrance. Tricky only if you have a room that you can reach through multiple paths with equal amount of doors.
