I honestly love Obsidian for writing. The sync-ability is essentially renting server space- so I own my vault and everything in it. Very secure. For collab work like betas- Ellipsus is fantastic with how it's drafts work.

So far the only issue I have is if you want to change your pfp it says to "Update on Gravatar" and at the very top of Gravatar's home page it advertises "Build Your AI Identity" and at the bottom it says Gravatar is used by OpenAI.

Gdocs is scraping your work even in private. They can also delete it without your consent.

Gravatar is a third party website that is used to attach to other sites. It's not part of ellipses.

Obsidian is the superior of the three tbh

So, what has you offering Ellipsus instead of Obsidian? What are the drawbacks? Paid-for content?
Just curious. I'd make the switch but I'm unsure of which to choose being unfamiliar with both.

I actually use both.
Ellip is free and easier to collaborate with. Great if you have a beta reader or editor.

But Obsidian is everything else. The paid version is essentially renting a small bit of server space. No censors, it's yours, and no nonsense.

The downside with Obsidian is it IS very personal. You cannot just share a link and let someone in- it's literally in a vault. But it does backup everything safely to a device in easy to restore ways, so in the event there's an error- it's still yours. The file type is not owned by any one person.

I love obsidian but I copy paste to ellipsus for beta reading. It also has an export to AO3 button so guess who this was made for LOL
