I could see a scenario where like West ham away he's hooked around 60 mins if as they may well be, Chelsea are say 2-0 up.
Did want to also guard against a benching also.

I just don't see why he would need a rest, it's his first midweek game of the season, he's not even in the European squad. Also, with Chelsea so well placed in the table I just don't see a situation where he wouldn't start tbh

I captained Palmer. My guess would be starts and plays 80+ mins. Palmer visibly kicked off when he got taken off at 63 mins v West Ham. When I saw that I just thought 'Maresca won't do that again'. (I am often wrong)

I captained him and didn’t think about the chance of a rest til tn.
But I still think it’s v unlikely that Palmer or Jackson are dropped. Maybe 90% chance of starting down from 99 any other week

And ultimately not worth thinking about bc I can’t change the decision

My thinking is Maresca left him out the European squad so he can be fit and available for all prem games, no injury or fatigue risk from Europe

I suspect he starts, Jackson more at risk but also think he starts

If I’m wrong, I’m the worse Chelsea fan alive.

I don’t think they should / would be rested (FPL aside) considering Palmer isn’t participating in Europe & NJ got subbed at 70’ last game. Would be easier to get his 5th yellow & serve a 1 game suspension if he was to be rested.

I captained Palmer but think he should start on the bench, it is not just about playing Three games this week, the festive period is hectic, and Southampton is perfect for rest, and will help give big edge against Tottenham to have them fresh.

I’m sure plenty of fit players can play 2-3 games a week. We see it with Kane, Salah, Saka etc. It depends on the individual. Him not playing Europe keeps him fresher. Why did you captain him if you had a doubt about his start ?

Captained him because he is streets ahead of the next option due to the fixture, he probably does start, and come off early, but playing Jackson makes no sense whatsoever.
Would be a massive risk, he too important for the Tottenham match to risk a yellow

That’s fair. Though it’s not axiomatic that Jackson does get a yellow. He could easily avoid it like he has in previous games.

Still captained him as if a team was to go and get 5+ tonight it feels like us

Also if he's rested a good chance he doesn't come on if we are ahead
