So long as the businesses find it worthwhile, they will supply. If they are “profiteering” then they need to be regulated better, because a functioning market should correct, and if that’s not happening then the market is broken or distorted.

It is only a cap isn’t it? Is there anything to stop an energy retailer who buys a lot of green electricity selling it on cheaply even if there isn’t as much they can do about gas? The other rip-off is standing charges of course but that is another argument.

Sadly I don’t believe the Government have the steel needed to face up to the big energy cartel that’s been fleecing us all these years. They’ll fiddle at the edges but cave once they get push back.
