In 20 years time the US won't have a young generation capable of understanding the subtleties and nuance of the world as it will be. And all because the Christian Taliban are determined to destroy the education system.
The problem isn't glorifying ignorance, it's that ignorant people don't realize they are. They revel in their own self and their own "research". They struggle to follow real science so to feed their ego, they make their own.
The thing I have noticed over here across the pond, is that in America people are far smarter and far more dangerous than they're being given credit for.
They're not ignorant, they are very, very aware of what they are and what they voted for.
They know that they have elected a fascist and want it
It’s technically both; they feed into/reinforce one another. Most people don’t start out stupid; they gain their stupidity from snake oil salesmen claiming to sell “forbidden knowledge”. They buy it and think they’ve become more intelligent than everyone else.
I live in an EXTREMELY Rural town in a blue state and am surrounded by magas. Not only does it suck but I see the pride in being ignorant every single day. The arrogance about it just makes it worse. You will never convince these people they might be wrong about something
I was at work the other day. I work in a white collar office. I mentioned the statistic about most people not reading a book after high school or college. They both have basically not read a book since then. One asked if a 100 chapter fan fiction counted. As an avid reader, I was amazed.
It's too bad that the role of public schools is to produce sheep to work making rich people richer instead of educating kids to become global citizens.
Humanity is never good at seeing and believing.
The eyes are overridden by the heart
The heart is overridden by greed.
Ignorance is the bliss driven rapture.
Create conflicts and separations, growing anxious and insecure so people goes around shopping to reduce their thoughts on those feelings. It’s all about money.

I block all money solicitors regardless of what cause they champion. If people want to donate to help others there are legitimate charities to work with that will ensure that funds get where they are truly needed. I blocked the one who responded to this post
I noticed this when I arrived in '83, and people asked if we still rode horse drawn carriages in Germany! Why my husband would seek to do his tour of duty abroad, and then his buddies proudly proclaimed that they had never left their home state...because why? It was all so - provincial to me.
We are a country of idiots… case in point: Texas just voted to indoctrinate K-5th grade children with bible bullshit! Never mind that the government is prohibited from doing so!
If that makes it better, it is not US that has issues with this cult of ignorance. Ive seen friends and relatives fall under the spell of willful ignorance, cuz it is easier than facing the reality.
To actively discourage education and knowledge like Trump and his Trumpistas shows the fear and disdain they have for science and intelligence. It is the fuel of fascism.
But TBH, my views have evolved since then. I don't think you can ascribe popular sentiment to anti-intellectualism when the public has been gaslit by an anti-science, anti-transparency, corporate profiteering mimickery of science for decades.
We all like to think we see through it ... but that's not how systemic issues survive. I see a lot of Fauci worship around BlueSky. I'm not going to pick fights with them - I'm not here for that. But dude made dozens of choices for profits over people, and then said, "I am science." Just sayin'.
Yesterday on MSNBC's Ari Melber I heard a woman saying that democrat's message was too "brainy" for the masses to get, that orange trump's message was the right amount of grievance with out the elitism. I paraphrase of course, but I realized how prompt they are to normalize incoming shit show
Huge part of the problem is the false agenda that "All opinions and viewpoints deserve respect" regardless of how informed they are. AKA how to lose every battle against a bunch of uneducated morons with better Debate Cadence than you
In high school they taught you not to laugh at the kid who thought Lord of the Flies was a metaphor for PC culture. That's exactly why we're losing. That moment in childhood creates so many terrible pundits
All these prognosticators and we still failed to apprehend the scope and the intervention required. I do believe an #addiction to #power is a culprit. Sadly.

Stupid people are easier to control/manipulate!
