That’s when I first started to realize maybe we weren’t getting the full story. Because I remember learning in my AP History class about the Jews being given their land “back,” but the curriculum never not once touched on what that meant for those who were already living there. Why leave that out?
I had a similar experience growing up in an evangelical household. Zionism was as important as Christ. It wasn't until adulthood that I had heard that Palestine even existed. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t mind differing opinions. I do mind, however, people not engaging in good faith discussions. It’s so myopic and disingenuous. The cognitive dissonance- like if having an open mind during a discussion might make you change your world view, then maybe you’re on the wrong side of history? 🤔
And thank you for being so open & informative! It’s so nice to be on a platform where I can am rewarded for acknowledging my knowledge gaps instead of screeched at & shamed. I used to only engage in intellectually honest discussions until @ 2015 when it all went downhill.
Likewise! It's soul-healing to not jump straight to arguing like usual. I appreciate your humility and thoughtful questions. It's honestly hard nowadays to not jump directly down other people's throats when everything feels so crazy.
I get it!! I joined a group @2016 that was infiltrated with angry Red-pilled incels, and they jumped down my throat anytime I said anything, pretty much. And then I started responding in kind and then I grew so hated they even had groups dedicated to my devastating blocks and laugh reaccs lol
They told us they hated the Jews, and I remember being shocked.
I asked them why they hated them so much, and they were incredulous (I get why now lol), but they were very kind in their explanations. They asked me how I’d feel if their grandparents land was taken and they were put into camps.
When I was 18, back in 1998, I we t to Europe with my exchange student friend for a month. While in Spain, we met these two Muslim men from Israel. I was so naive, and I’d been taught that basically it was divine intervention keeping the Jews safe.
