I worked in product distribution in IT for a couple of decades. The highest margin items in any store are the health and beauty products. They typically have a minimum of a 50% profit margin. So your shampoo likely cost them less than $10. That's industry wide, not just Walton's stores.
Gotta be able to afford to spend significantly more in that single purchase & when $1 can make the difference in eating for a day or two, the $18 purchase will never make more sense than the $3 one... 😫😭
