I switched last year for the same reason & I love my kobo. 1 device for everything from many sources. Using Pocket, I can save longer articles to read later. I love my Kobo!

Can it handle color PDFs with images properly? The kindle I had (from years ago) was terrible at that, and too slow to render them. Needless to say, there's no love for Amazon from me neither. :)

Also it’s silly but I love that the lock screen is the color cover of whatever book I’m reading. Just makes me happy. And it works seamlessly with Overdrive. Other than slightly less good battery life it kicks Kindles ass in every category. Well and the airplane mode hack for Overdrive doesn’t work.

I think it does a good job. Only thing that annoys me is if the pdf is a scan from print text isn’t centered in same position on page, if you Zoom in you’ll have to reposition page in window every time. But when content is aligned no issues. Also love the collections/organization features.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the ones I was thinking about were scanned PDFs. Repositioning doesn't sound too horrible, if the device is responsive. Worse if it's sluggish and you're fighting with it all the time.

I got the Kobo Libra Color and I love it! Bought a Metapen stylus too for annotations. I hear https://bookshop.org is working with Kobo too to make it easier to buy their ebooks!

Libra I found was the best size for me. The Clara is just a bit too small. The physical page turn buttons are awesome too. I’ll upgrade to the color one this year

This is probably a lame answer but I’m chalking it up to a loss because I don’t think I’d reread any of them. That said it is doable to transfer, there are steps to remove DRM and load into an app like Calibre. I gather once you figure it out, it’s not hard. I got the Libra Color and Metapen M2.

Fairly impossible to prevent drm from being removed from a book that contains words (and can be compared to a real copy).

I have a Likebook Mars. I've had it for years and it's great. Because it's android based I still have the kindle app so I still have access to the content but I'm not locked down to Amazon's ecosystem.
