The fact that DAV ended up my fav of the 4 despite all sabotage from EA and upper bioware management is a testament to the skill of the devs, and the way they were treated during and after production was unforgivable. Heartbreaking >_<

But you also shouldn't need an article telling you that they suffered to treat them like they're human and not shit on them online.
Also hearing that ppl are doubling down on the abuse? YIKES. If we can't even be mature about a GAME how can we handle real life?? Fuck.
Not to mention, the company just SAT there while their workers AND volunteer team that worked with them weathered hate campaigns from all sides? DISGUSTING. Reprehensible.
Also fans who jumped on the abuse bandwagon, no fandom nonsense has sent me on an abuse crusade, we're just built different =_=
These folks did the impossible, ya'll. They made a fun, moving game DESPITE this shit. They made a game that had all the things I've been dreaming of to be in a game for years, it hit all the notes that resonate with me, and that's why it's close to my heart, esp right now.
I think I like DAV for a completely different reason compared to why I like the previous games. I felt like, for the first time, the companions actually felt like found family. They actually wanted to work together for the greater good. And in current global political climates that's...so needed.
My other take is that if EA really wanted this game to be a success they would have kept the devs who worked on it to continue working on it. Because when Cyberpunk 2077 came out it was NOT the game we know today. They just didn’t give up on it. EA gave it less than a year and bailed.
oh 100%
imho, management has been trying to kill DA for a while now b/c ME is the fav child, and with all the other CEOs getting payouts this year, they went for an easy firing quick payout for current gratification, rather than looking to the future. Just gutting.
I seriously could not disagree more. real life relationships, communication, and people are messy, like they were in Origins. by all acounts, this game sanatized how humans behave in a very childish way.
in fact constant in-fighting being used as characterization is kinda my beef with a lot of storytelling rn b/c it's the only way Western media knows how to do conflict and it's exhaustinggggg
I do not think it’s a perfect game, but none of the previous three games were perfect either. Veilguard suffered a lot from management and it could have been so much more. The foundation was there.
The team actually being competent, capable and cooperative were not flaws.
let's be real: the fact the game flopped because of bad executive decisions has been common knowldge to anyone with common sense since release. but blaming people who make the best of a bad situation they were handed is so common in the entertainment industry.
It's exhaustingggg.
But also like, the game didn't flop, that's the issue. It sold really well, was rated very well, and the execs were like NO NO WE MUST HAVE EXPONENTIAL INCREASE EVERY YEAR WHERE ARE MY BILLIONS and fired everyone so they could get a quick payout. The industry is fucked rn
people keep saying that, but the reported numbers are definately a flop for a game as big as Dragon Age. three million sales in a month is 100% a reasonable expectation for a studio as storied as Bioware.

What incredible devs💙

Veilguard approached saving the world more pragmatically than any of the previous DA games. These people actually cared about each other.
There could have been more disagreements in writing, etc but I do not think more infighting = complex characters
It’s refreshing to be in a team that actually wants to team up.
