I (well, my parents) had this van in real life in 1988. The only difference was the stripe, an that it didn't turn into a robot.

Had this toy existed then, it would have been so cool.

Black and gold are a classic 80s colour combination, but once they're converted to robot mode, the gold gives way to gorgeous red with baby blue details. But the figure itself is definitely showing its age.

The proportions are off making posing awkward, and the hip skirts are a reminder of compromises made by the design team. We've had Studio Series 86 Ironhide since this was originally released, and it does a lot of things better.
