brain is highly enriched in lipid compared to other tissues, which plays into why there is concern about this Py-GCME method resulting in headlines all focusing on this tissue more than others - whether the brain is really more susceptible and accumulating microplastics is ❓❓

These Pyr-GCMS measurement of polyethylene looks like it was developed in non biological matrices (wastewater), and we are still early in validating methods for biological samples. This is a common learning curve where methods get applied outside where they were originally developed

Somewhat concerning - looks like kidney (potentially still problematic from a methods standpoint) is getting overlooked relative to brain, but it's probably biologically the tissue that makes most sense to see them accumulate (given filtering roles, damage that occurs with age).

I’d go as far to say skepticism is always warranted if we care about human and environmental health. Bad science and media distortion don’t lead to better outcomes.
